  1. Hi,

I am a Malaysian chinese working in Singapore and I plan to marry a lady from PR of China after dating for 02 years. Currently she’s also working in Singapore in an executive position under work permit & she has been to Johore Baharu a few times. And of course she has to apply for VISA before entering whereby she will be given two weeks to stay in Malaysia upon entry at immigration checkpoint. After marriage, I intend to ask her to stop working in Singapore and stay permanently in Malaysia.May I know what are the procedures that I need to do for registering our marriage and what are the required documents for applying for her long term visit pass in Malaysia?I really hope you could furnish me enough information on this matter.Thank you.

  2. Hi Ray,

If you want to save all the hassles, register your marriage in Singapore(following all the needed procedure by the Singapore’s government), then come back and report to the nearest JPN about your marriage with all the documents within 6 months.

If you want to register in Malaysia, there will be many things that you have to take care of which I’m not sure what but it’s definitely more troublesome as she might have to fulfill certain requirements and so on.

If you want to know the documents needed you can check this out:
    http://www.cherishmywedding.com/category/legally-married-in-malaysia/

These are just rough reference for you. For more accurate information contact your nearest JPN.

Once she is your wife, she will get a social visit visa if not mistaken. Check this post out:

Even though it’s not related to China women but the rules are more or less the same.

That’s all I can help. If you want more details, go to the nearest JPN when you are back in Malaysia or give them a call since there are many contact details here or go to Malaysia Embassy/High Commissioner in Singapore to get details. You can also register your marriage there.

  3. Hi,

I am wonder whether you can help me. I am ROM with Singaporen in Singapore in year 2006. Untill now then I am aware that I need to registered my marriage again in Malaysia. So is that true? Is there any consequences if I did not registered my marriage in Malaysia?

    Thanks & regards,
    Eileen Wong

  4. Hi Eileen, you must report back to M’sia else you are not considered married by the government here. It’s not called register, the procedure is different. You just need to bring all the documents you got in Singapore and report to the JPN in your hometown that you are married already.

If you do not report back, the government won’t recognize your marriage and in case something happen to you, your husband cannot claim anything for you or in case you got problem in your marriage, the law will not be able to protect you. Since it’s been so many years already, you will be slapped with very expensive penalty, so make sure you prepare the amount of money. Here’s the rate:
    Sijil Perkahwinan = RM20.00
    Marriage Certificate = RM20.00

Penalti bagi pendaftaran lewat Tahun pertama = RM100.00
Penalty for late registration in first = RM100.00

    Setiap tahun berikutnya RM50.00
    Each subsequent year RM50.00

  5. 我问我的女朋友有结过婚吗,他说没有,可是人家又说又,那我可以查他结过婚还是没有吗?

  6. Hi,

I understand that couple who wish to marry must submit their marriage application form personally at JPN counter. And submission JPN counter are base on MyKad address. My question is, my fiance MyKad address is in Johor and mine is in Sabah and we wish our marriage to take place in Johor. In my sitiuation, do I need to change my MyKad address first before submit the application form or is there any other alternative to do it?

  7. skchong, I’m not sure you can check or not but getting her to get the single certificate from JPN, that will prove it. Besides, you will need it to proceed to apply for registering your marriage.

Michelle, yes, you have to change your address to be the same as your fiance. No other alternative.
