  1. My girlfriend and I plan to get married in Sabah in May 2009. We are both Hong Kong residents, with Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Passport.

Please advise on the procedures and the preparatory paper work required.

    Thanks a lot.

    Yiukee CHAN (Mr)

  2. Hi Yiukee CHAN, congrates. I think you have to over to the marriage registration department in Hong Kong and ask them about it as you might need some documents for you be able to get married overseas. I’m sure they will have all the details. You have to get in touch with the Malaysia embassy or high commissioner for it and to fill in any required documents also. Basically this two places will give you all that you need for you to get married over here.

  3. Dear Sir / Madam

Hi , can I check with you , My fiance is from Swedish .
We plan register in this year November , if I not able to go Shah Alam to register , could you please let me know , Penang got registration centers ? If able to register in Penang could you please let me the addres also .

    Thanks a lot

    Jenny chong

  4. Hi Jenny, here’s contacts of Penang’s JPN: http://www.cherishmywedding.com/2007/10/19/malaysia-marriage-registration-centres-pulau-pinang/

If I’m not mistaken, you have to follow your IC address on where to register. Since he’s a foreigner, he will have some extra requirements that he needs to fulfill. Therefore it is best for you to go the the embassy(if you are not in Malaysia) or any nearest JPN to get all the details so that he can prepare all the documents needed. They will be able to guide you on what and where to go and documents to prepare.

  5. Hello,

I’d like to check if the Buddhist Mahavihara temple in Brickfields, KL still accept marriage registration? Cos I heard they are trying to renew their license this year, not sure if successful or not. thanks!

  6. Jessica, please contact them yourself for your answer as I don’t have the answer for you we are not even related to any of the JPN or any related department. Sorry.

  7. Dear Sir / Madam

May I know in wilayah excpet Brickfields. is that any place still have Buddhist temple for marriage registration?

  8. Sunny, sorry, can’t help you much. I’m not the local there and I’m not related to this industry. That’s all I have and that’s all I can share.

  9. hello,

  10. syed, sorry, you are not clear enough in your question and also you study here I don’t think you can get married with any local here, sorry can’t help you much.

  11. HI!

My fiance is from Tangkak, Johor and I am from Kuala Selangor.
Both of us plan to get married in Selangor.
Would appreciate that you can let us know the procedures to get registered with the Registrar of Marriage in Selangor.

    Thanks.

  12. Hi Ivy, all you need to do is get your fiance to change his IC’s address to Selangor, easier to the same address as yours. Then proceed to JPN and they will let you know the procedures.
    http://www.cherishmywedding.com/2007/07/19/marry-a-malaysian-in-malaysia-both-above-21-years-old/
For details, go to the nearest JPN.

  13. Hi!

My fiance is from Vietnam and I am from Malaysia. We have completed the documents from Vietnam Embassy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and JPN. Both of us plan to register in Malaysia this month. And we were told we must go to the Shah Alam registrar.

Would appreciate that if you could let us know the procedures to get registered with the Registrar of Marriage in Shah Alam.

Do we need to go for pre-register like booking date? Pls advise.

    Thanks.

    Rgds,
    Ken

  14. Ken, bring all your documents to JPN in Shah Alam, then they will tell you everything. This will be where you make appointment with them for the date.

  15. Hello there,

My fiancee and I are wondering if it is possible to carry out our registration on the wedding day itself? (At the venue of our wedding).

    Thanking you in anticipation.
    Rgds
    Adrian

  16. Adrian, yes, you can but you have to arrange with them when you take the needed document or submit all your documents and make the appointment date, they might refer you to the assistant registrar near your place, just tell them your plan and they will be happy to assist you.

  17. I am from Sabah and my husband-to-be is local (Selangor). I don’t know the procedure to get us registered. Kindly advise in detail. I have no idea why the procedure to get registered in Government dept is so troublesome as what i heard from a lot of people.
    Thanks in advance.

  18. Alice, it’s pretty troublesome indeed for East and West Malaysians to get married.

All I can give u is brief details. Decide where you want to get your marriage register, in Sabah or Selangor. Then one of you have to change your IC address to the place where you intend to get your marriage registeed.

For East Malaysian to change address to West Malaysia’s address is easy but it’s not easy for West Malaysian to change address to East Malaysia’s address (of I’m not mistaken).

Once you have decided where you want to get married, go to the nearest JPN according to the IC address and then they will tell you what to do. Basically the procedure is take the form, check your status, prepare documents, submit, make appointment, wait to see if anyone oppose in 21 days, then on the date itself, bring all the needed documents and that’s it. You are more likely to make about 2-3 trips to JPN for the whole process.

The JPN people will tell you everything you need.

  19. I hope you can help me to locate either Hokkien Association or Cantonese Association in Selangor. Cause it is too troublesome to get register in JPN.

    Thank you once again.

  20. Alice, sorry I don’t have any details for it as I’m not even located in West Malaysia. By the way, even if you want to go to those associations to register, you will still have to go to JPN for the initial arrangement, take all the documents and check your status, from there you can get all the needed contact details from them, they should have it to assist you to get your marriage register at the association as the associations are only assistant registrars appointed by JPN to do the registration. Sorry to tell you that, you cannot escape JPN no matter what.

So, head over to the nearest JPN to get all the forms and find out the associations that are appointed to do your wedding registration.

  21. hi, i am an india couple i would like to know how do i do a registation in a temple after my marriage. bc in the temple that im getting married there is no registar. im getting married in banting temple, selangor

  22. kohilah, if the temple does not have an assistant registrar to register for you, just do whatever ceremony you want but remember to go JPN after or before that to register your marriage. As for registering, just do as normal, go to JPN submit everything and register there. JPN doesn’t care how is your wedding ceremony or where you will be having it or had it. All they care is to have you sign the paper and be a legal couple. Find the nearest JPN and get your marriage register there.

  23. Hi admin,

My fiancé is from KL and I am from Selangor. May I know do I need to change my address to KL address before our ROM? Thanks!

  24. Elise Yee, yes, you have to change to the same address as his so that you can register in KL.

  25. Hi, To whom may answering me,

I’m from Perak and my fiance fr Pahang, both of us would like register at Selangor.

Can i enquire few questions about registration oF marriage?
May i know what are the documents to bring to JPN ?

What are the supports document to change IC address ?
And I have lost my birth certificate , will it affect to register?

Do i need go back Perak to report loss of birth certificate?
which section of JPN to do all this registration??

Pls advise, i really keen to find it out !

Thanks a million that you can give me a reply!

I’m looking forward for your reply.

  26. Christine, http://www.jpn.gov.my/ you can find the information you need here.

    Documents, check the site given.

IC, just go and change no need any supporting documents.

You will need birth cert if you are going to register at an assistant registrar. If not mistaken, you don’t need it at JPN. If you need it, just go to JPN, ask any officer you see there and they will point to you the section. You really have to report about the loss of your birth cert because you will need it at certain point of your life. Any JPN should be able to do it.

  27. Hi am Deji from Nigeria my fiance is also Nigeria but she does not stay in malaysia but often come to visit and willing to do ur registry here how do we go about doing the registry i stay close to kajang so Kajang will be the best place kindly advice on what to do and how you can help

  28. Deji, you must make sure your country allows such marriage to take place in Malaysia and check with them the documents you will need, I’m sure they will be able to advise you if you want to get married overseas because at the end of the day, you will have to report back your marriage to your own country.

  29. hi
