Just want check when u said marry someone who is below 21 years old, if the person is 21 this year and his date of birth is on October, does this person considered as 21 years old? Does he need arrange for special marriage?
SY, I think so. Else, just wait for few more months, it’s only few more months. If cannot afford to wait, then I think special marriage need to be done. Most poeple would just wait for few more months until they reach 21. Some will have their traditional ceremony first as this can be done anytime, it’s not recognise by the law, then after their birthday they register their marriage to be legally married by the law. In case anything happen before the marriage is registered but already “married” customarily, then there’s nothing you can fight for the wife or husband rights as the marriage never exist.
What is the earliest date to apply for marriage registration? I would like to choose the special date such as 09/09/09 or 20/09/09..
Thanks
As early as you want especially if you are going for those special dates coz there’s only few slots available on those days and I personally know some people that had already booked it last year end! You have to be quick if you are going to do it in JPN. If other places like Thian Hou Gong or association, then you might not have be so rush but it is still best to do it a soon as you can to avoid disappointment because I can guarantee that it will be very packed!
Hi May I know if I could hire an officiant for my marriage registration at my wedding? Where and how can I hire?
Ashley, yes, go to the nearest JPN and they have a list for you.
Hi admin, thank you very much for giving us a lot of information on the net. Now i have one problem that my wife is from China n we already registered in China on Oct 2008. Now I wanna registered our marriage in Malaysia, my wife still worked in China n she will be coming to Malaysia next month August 2009 for 2 week holidays. It is possible this 2 week ,can we do our registered in Malaysia than she back to China continue work there? Actually i planning to bring my wife stay for good in Malaysia in the year 2010.Please advice!! Thanks.
CP, hello. OH MY! It’s more than 6 months already since you registered. You are supposed to report back to Malaysia within 6 months of your registration over there with all the marriage documents you got from registering there. After 6 months, you will be slap with penalty but I don’t know how much.
You are already registered, you don’t need to register in Malaysia again, just bring all the documents as mentioned just now to the nearest JPN to report about it so that they can update your details in the national database.
Since she is from China, there might be extra procedure that you need to do. You can go to the nearest Chinese Chamber of Commerce(if you are in Malaysia) for details maybe… Else if you are in China, find the Malaysian Embassy/high commissioner, you can also report your marriage there without coming back if I’m not mistaken but again you have to pay the penalty.
Here’s a link on Indonesian girl marrying Malaysian man, the procedure might be similar or might be not.
http://www.cherishmywedding.com/2009/07/16/malaysian-man-marrying-an-indonesian-chinese-woman-in-malaysia/
That’s all I can tell you. I have don’t have much knowledge about this. It is best for you to contact the Malaysia embassy or high commissioner.
Thanks a lot your advice. By the way if my wife stay in Malaysia for good ,it is the Malaysia Law said that she can not work in Malaysia for certain years unless my wife do her own business?
CP, if I’m not mistaken she cannot work or own any business here.
Thank you very much your information. by the way if my wife would like apply for PR status in Malaysia, she must stayed in Malaysia at least 5 years above? During this 5 years she are not allow back to China even for short holidays?? please advice.. TQ
cp, I doubt she can get a PR unless she is a professional sought after by M’sia government. She will forever be a foreigner here unless she is lucky to get the PR which the chance to get it is extremely low. My friend’s mother is here for more than 30 years and never get to be a PR, don’t even say your wife. Many other people get all fed up and rather move out of Malaysia and get PR somewhere else so that their spouse can be recognized and enjoy the same benefits as themselves. It’s never easy to get a PR in Malaysia.
All the best!
I did appreciate your advice and thank you for your time. If in the future my wife give birth in Malaysia, do my child automatically become a Malaysian citizen? Do my children enjoy a benefit like others children in Malaysia such as study in government school? TQ
cp, don’t worry, the child will follow your citizenship, so he/she will be Malaysian just like you.
hi admin, I’d like to know whether JPN at Desa Complex Kepong, KL is available for mariage register? TQ
wayne, emm… if not what JPN is for?
hi admin, I was just wondering if there was a time limit to get married after our names has been posted on the notice for 21 days?
nt, there is a time frame for you to register but I don’t remember how long, if not mistaken either 6 months or 3 months after the 21 days. This condition should be written in your form or the officer will tell you when you submit it.
thank you very much for your help!=)
hey amin. currently im in overseas. me and my boyfriend plan to register on this coming nov. but the prob is we are going to meet in kl, which is not our hometown for a week only.is it possible for us to get register during that one week in kl? or do we need to go back to our hometown and get is registered there? can u pls brief me about the marriage application?
Hi Jamie, sorry to say. The answer is “no” to all. If you both want to get married in KL, both must change IC address to KL address. Only one week is even not possible because you need to go take the form, prepare documents, submit form, wait for approval(need to wait for 21 days) before you both can get married legally.
Even if go back to home town, both of you must have the same address if both of you are not from the same state or even division.
Please search this site for other needed details. If you can’t find what you need, means that’s all I know, that’s my limit of the knowledge since I’m not related or working in this field.
hi admin,
Im planning to get married on the 15th Feb 2010 and wanted to have the registration on the 14th Feb which is actually on Chinese New Year. Do you think it’s possible to arrange someone to come and do the registration for us. Please advise.
Hi selva, it should be possible, just go to your nearest JPN and arrange from there, I’m sure they have a list of assistant registrar near your place that can do what you need but be sure to do it a.s.a.p because I’m sure many people already booked for such service already as it’s peak season.
if i want register with my china girlfriend, what document need to summit, pleast advise. thank you
Phang, sorry, can’t help you much but since you can find all the contacts of JPN here, find one that is nearest to you and I’m sure they will be happy to provide you with all the needed information.

Hi, morning ! I wanna register marry with my boy friend at next year 10.10.2010, should I submit the form and booking the date early ?
Hi,admin. I still got one problem is I’m not is a KL poeple, but my boy friend is Kl pepple. Is it I need to change my IC address to same address with my boy friend ?
Angel, 10.10.2010 is still a bit too early for your to submit but you might be allowed to get the form first and you can go ask them when is the best time to submit so that the date can be booked. If you want to register in KL, you have to change to the same address as your bf.
All the best.
Hi,
I am planning to ROM with my gf who is a malaysian working in SG and I am a singaporean.
Since we are both working in SG and it is tough to be away from work for a month, what is the quickest way to get our ROM done in malaysia. Anyone faced the same situation and know what are the procedures required?
We also plan to do it in a hotel function room instead at JPN. Someone, please advice.
mpeng, I don’t think there is any shortcut for this. Unless you register in Singapore and then just report back to Malaysia with the documents at the nearest JPN.
If you want to do it in Malaysia, you just have to follow whatever they ask you to do. Once u’re done with that, you can arrange with an assistant registrar that you can get(JPN should have a list for that) and engage him/her to have your ROM at the hotel or wherever you want.
admin, if i wanted to have my marriage registration outside of JPN office, how can i apply for it? eg; in a hotel or some memorable places?
alex, yes you can, u have to arrange with them, they have a list of assistant registrar that you can hire to conduct ur wedding outside of JPN. Just go to JPN and you will have all the answer you need.
Hi there, me and my fiance-US citizen, we will marry in Malaysia. However, i would like to know that, can i change my name which follow his surname and use my christian name when register for marriage?
Sharon, I’m not sure about in Malaysia but I’m sure US can. Besides, you have to report your marriage back to US as well, so you should be able to so there.
Thanks for the update. Well i have no idea now about my name issue. As what i know i cant change my name when register marry, what is your suggestion if i would like to take my husband surname and add on my christian name once i get married here in Malaysia. As it is important to show i married and apply for my Immigrant Visa.
Sharon, in that case means you cannot change your name unless you register your marriage in the US rather than Malaysia. It’s common in the US if not mistaken. After that, come back and report about your marriage to JPN with all the documents or just go to the embassy to report your marriage.
