Different Styles of Cakes for Wedding

Different Styles of Cakes for Wedding

You see cake in every wedding. There are so many types. Most people that I know usually don’t really care about it. They will just pick and choose from what on offer by the restaurant/hotel. Most of the time, the cakes are fake. We seldom see real cake in a wedding in Malaysia.

If you are particular about the uniqueness of your cake style in your wedding, here are some rules of thumb that you might want to know when you want to custom made a cake:

  • Plan and order 6 months in advance, if you are going to get some popular confectioner to do it esepcially during peak season, you might have to me earlier.
  • Do your research. I hope this post will help you a bit.
  • Find your style by considering the location, the season of the year, your favorite colour, favourite flowers, or even your wedding dress as inspiration.
  • Check your budget. Your caterer might be able to do it.
  • If you like a certain baker, stick to him/her provided he/she can do cake for wedding.
  • Do research and find get references. If references are not given, it is most probably a bad one.
  • Determine the number of guests as the pricing depends on it if you are going to let your guest eat the cake.
  • Determine your design as the pricing depends on it too.
  • Bring photos of cakes you like, swatches of your dress and images of your reception site to give ideas to your confectioner.
  • Taste the cake before yo commit.
  • Choose the right icing for your cake based on the location of your wedding as butter-cream and whipped cream icings will melt on hot weather if the wedding is an outdoor one.
  • You might want to consider combination of fake and real cake or just fake cake if budget is an issue. This is quite popular in many weddings in Malaysia. Guests are not served with the cake instead family members will bring the cake home after the wedding for own consumption.
  • Have a small one for the cake cutting ceremony and have a different batch to be served to the guest.
  • Go for simple design.
  • Go for fresh fruit or flowers, things that are lightweight so that it won’t sink into the cake.
  • Go for other kind of desserts instead of cake servedon tier.
  • Have one type of flavour to save cost.
  • Square cake will serve 10 to 30 percent more than a round cake of the same dimensions.
  • Go for those with experience as inexperienced ones might end up costing you more in failed attempts.
