Lost of Marriage Certificate
What to do when you misplaced your marriage certificate? Don’t ignore it as it is a very important document.
If previously you do not register in JPN, there is no way you can get it back from the assistant registrar that had legalised your marriage except going to JPN because the assistant registrar will send all the documents back to JPN. They also have no rights to re-issue your lost marriage certificate.
Every certificate has a unique number. The assistant registrar can only help you look for the number and you have to go to JPN to get your certificate. Make sure you also ask the assistant registrar which JPN they send the documents to.
After that go to JPN to do cabutan sijil perkahwinan. If not mistaken, the fee RM10.
Therefore, be sure to keep your marriage certificate in a save place so that you don’t have to go through all these troubles.

One of my witness did not make it to my registration. He is my own father because he was ill. We got another person to replace the witness. In the certificate, the name was just crossed and the new witness name was written. I wonder of marriage certificate is valid (the ceritifcate got amendment)? Is it arguable in the future?
Shih Lee, you should ask the question to the registrar that time. I’m not sure it will be valid or not but since they did that, it should mean it’s fine as the assistant registrar is assigned by JPN to do it. They should have an exact copy of certificate as yours unless the cert you have and the copy cert they have got different information. If you are still worry, please go back to the place where you register your marriage and ask them.
